County Report Requirements

I. County Poster (Required- to be prepared at home)

A. On a poster board, the following elements are required:

1. County Name

2. Hand-drawn Map of County with:

a. County Seat (star)

b. Mountains, rivers, lakes, etc.

c. Landmarks, tourist attractions

d. Two important cities

e. Colored neatly

f. Key and Compass Rose

3. One inch border relating to your county

4. Five interesting facts about your county

5. Colorful pictures that are related to your county

I. Oral Report (Required- to be prepared at home)

A. The oral presentation should be 5-8 minutes long (no longer than 8 minutes). The presentation should be based on the history, economy, and tourism of the county. The grade will be based on the following:

1. Overall Presentation- original or creative approach

2. Enthusiasm

3. Presentation Skills (eye contact, clear words, loud voice, etc.)

4. 5-8 minutes in length

5. Knowledge of county in the areas of history, economy, and tourism

6. Ability to answer questions

B. Students should not be “reading” their report to the class, but maintain eye contact with their audience; note cards are acceptable.

ADDITIONAL PROJECTS

(Choose one project to be completed at home)

County Float

This project is a three dimensional display resembling a diorama. Using a shoe box as a base, create a parade-like float that represents your county. Be sure to include the name of your county, important landmarks, and other subject matter appropriate to the county. Have fun and be creative!

County Travel Brochure

Using the information you’ve gathered about your county, you will create a Travel Brochure. Your Brochure should contain the following:

a. County name on the front, with a catchy slogan

b. Colored illustrations/pictures (at least 3)

c. Captions under pictures

d. Information of what to see and do in your county

County Scrapbook

This is a great project to do if you go to visit your county and take pictures. Using your pictures and other information you collect, create a scrapbook of at least 6 pages explaining where you went and why it is important in your county. Please use a caption or explanation with each picture; please also create a cover with your county name, your name, and a nice picture. Have fun and be creative!

If you want to do a different project, talk with your teacher for approval.
